While your point is valid it also must be acknowledged that some contributors manipulate their cache to their credit atvanage. There are people who update several times a day but have caches of several days. Part of this could be attributed to keeping enough work to ride out a network or server failure (as I do).

hmm. i do the same, switchd from a 1 day cache to a 2 day cache because of downtime, then to a 3 day cache after an extendid outage. i wonder if theres a way for the app to know if the user is on dialup as compared to highspeed.. cant go by the transfer figures, those have never been quight "accurate"

hmm. now thats a thinker.

note: by transfer figures i mean the ones reported on the project site. if i recall right its on the page for a persons computers...

i just lookd at mine,, i take it back. they do appear to be accurate. guess each project is a tad different. interesting.

BOINC doesn’t have a way

Message 40080 in response to message 40079

BOINC doesn’t have a way of knowing if you are always connected to the internet or if you are on dialup.

BTW, my transfer figures says unknown.

Then you're really interested in a subject, there is no way to avoid it. You have to read the Manual.

In some ways, I am beginning

In some ways, I am beginning to feel thoroughly ashamed and sorry for bringing this subject up!!!!!
But I hope you will accept the ramblings of an aged and almost totally computer illiterate. (As well as being that, I am also very competitive - insofar as my modest collection of Mac's will allow. I also have a spare G4 iBook 1.33Gig, but that is so slow, I can walk faster, even at my age ... !!!)

BTW ... I was, this morning, looking forward to changing over my MacBook Pro 2.16 Gig to the S5R programme. I was working down steadily through my cache ... along with messages telling me that I was getting no more S4 work ... HOWEVER, when I had about 1 hour to go to changeover, my cache suddenly filled up again!!!

I am NOT unhappy however, for typically this machine requests 16.47 credits ... and is invariably rewarded with 30; 42; 50 ... credits ...
I am happy to stay crunching these old ones at this rate!!! (50 credits per hour is not to be sneezed at!!!!!)
;-))
