Hi, same problem on a Mac Pro 5,1 with ATI HD5870 running High Sierra (but no crash). MilkyWay@Home running GPU tasks normally. The project preference you mention does not exist. It is not possible to choose to receive specific types of workunits. Either on the computer or on the website. I know there is a config file buried deep down somewhere in the system, with extra boinc options, but I don't think it would cover project preferences. Should I give up Einstein@Home?
Hi, same problem on a Mac Pro 5,1 with ATI HD5870 running High Sierra ...
Same problem as what??? Your message links back to a post from last November which was discussing setting preferences for a 2GB nvidia 750Ti, and what it might be able to crunch. Your HD5870 is quite different and might be too old to crunch tasks for either of the two main GPU searches. You could give the Gamma-ray pulsar GPU search a go - there are no tasks available right at the moment so you'll need to wait until that's rectified.

Yes it does. Just go to your account page, click the 'Preferences' menu item and then click the 'Project' sub-menu item. Scroll down the full page until you see the "Applications" heading and you will see tick boxes for all the different searches. Those that support a GPU all have GPU as part of the name. I don't know if your GPU could be used for any of those since I've never tried anything prior to the HD7000 series.
You don't need to worry about any "deeply buried config file". Preference setting is quite straight forward. Set what you want to try and don't forget to 'Save Changes' (at the very bottom of the page) when done. Ask specific questions in your own thread if you need further explanation. If doing that, please give proper information about exactly what the problem is, what you have tried, and what happened as a result.
