The lucky ones!

Whenever Einstein@Home finds a new neutron star, there is always one workunit in which that discovery "stands out" from the noise with the highest statistical significance.  The volunteers whose computers processed that workunit receive framed discovery certificates, signed by myself and by the Principal Investigator of the experiment/collaboration that provided the data.  Over the past decade, we have sent out more than a hundred of these, and we are now preparing a new batch.   If you are interested, here is a photo album showing our past "lottery winners", along with their discovery certificates.

Yeah I like that approach.

Yeah I like that approach. Maybe I will be one of the lucky ones that gets the workunit with a hit. But everyone with a discovery earned that certificate. So please send me good workunits in the future, I'm happy to come to Hannover and pick up the certificate myself (living nearby) :)

Background tasks don't offer much in terms of awareness and action, but regular updates on discoveries and things like this really invigorate on why I'm doing this.

In the end we're all part of those discoveries. And we won't stop. Because we can all see the results and discoveries in the reports and papers related to E@H. Or by watching photos from dedicated people showing their certificate.

Of course, I would be interested too to get such a thing. I wonder however if you contact the users that qualify anyways or if there is some way to maybe check that yourself (for us users)? Thanks in any case!

Very disappointed to see all

Very disappointed to see all men. I have been on this project since 2007 and not very actively engaged, so my exclusion absolutely makes sense. But there had to have been some women who qualify. And they should have been included in this album.

This is a great thing to

This is a great thing to share with the users that are volunteering, it really makes people feel invested and thanked for their contributions. I've been crunching for various other projects for a while and the SETI project sent you a certificate when you joined and you could print out one at the end of the project showing the units processed etc.

A great way to keep people enthused!

In your settings you can check if you allow E@H officials to contact you via email. I'm pretty sure you get an email if you got the workunit with a "hit" and are asked to provide your address for shipping certificate + upload a nice picture in return :)

not sure why people are

not sure why people are asking if you "qualify". either your system submits the standout WU or it doesn't. there's no additional qualification. your chances of getting the golden ticket are directly proportional to how many WUs you are processing and submitting.

also no need to make this some kind of sociopolitical issue bringing up gender... there's no bias on the part of the project here. the fact that there are no women in the list only tells us that there are far less women contributing. which is not surprising since computer enthusiasts and STEM fields are usually primarily men.
