why does my account show four computers when i only use one?

You need to select the newest computer by selecting the highest computer id number and click on merge host and mege the oterh 3 hosts.
It can happen if something happens to the boinc configuration when the project is being attached.

thanks! yes the account script was aware of the "mistake" and merged them into one computer id. seems to be a BOINC bug.

It is indeed a BOINC bug. I am working on it now with David Anderson and Rom Walton. I'm hopeful that this can be fixed without a client-side change. There is another BOINC bug in the client related to operating behind a proxy that might lead to similar behavior, but I don't think it's responsible here.
